The Bronx Real Estate Market

With a median listing price typically around $600,000, The Bronx generally has the lowest housing prices out of the five boroughs, providing an affordable option within the above-average cost of living in New York City. However, don't mistake the value of homes in The Bronx; this borough is packed with local attractions and is well-connected to Manhattan via the subway system, giving it access to Manhattan's amenities at more affordable home prices.

The northern and central neighborhoods tend to host the priciest luxury homes in Bronx County. It's the sixth-largest stadium in major league baseball and among the most expensive stadiums in the world. If you're not a baseball fan, don't worry—the stadium also hosts concerts, football games, and other events throughout the year. If you are a baseball fan, prepare to cheer on one of the most iconic sports teams.

No matter what time of year, there's always something blooming at The New York Botanical Garden. This national historic landmark is a must-see for any nature lover. From arboretums to native plants to rose gardens, it's a beautiful natural respite. Set some time aside to stroll down the Seasonal Walk.

These aren't the only attractions to living in The Bronx, however. When it comes to food, The Bronx has you covered. Arthur Avenue in the Belmont neighborhood is sometimes referred to as the "real Little Italy" and is worth visiting. This historic street is lined with Italian restaurants, bakeries, and specialty stores. Make sure to try a house-made sandwich with fresh mozzarella at Mike's Deli or get a cannoli at Madonia Brothers Bakery.

Looking for shopping? Fordham Road is home to hundreds of boutique retailers and chain stores, as well as a good number of popular restaurants. You can find about anything you need here, from clothes to home goods to electronics. It's also home to several attractions, such as the Edgar Allen Poe cottage.

  • The Bronx has the most public parks of any of the five boroughs. Bronx Park, in particular, has many recreation areas in addition to The Bronx Zoo and the New York Botanical Gardens.

Schools in NYC are run by the New York City Public Schools district, which serves over 1.1 million students. This overarching district is divided into 32 districts, each being broken up into zones. In addition, District 75 comprises around 57 schools that serve students with disabilities.

The Bronx is served by NYC Geographic Districts #7–12. All told, over 320 public schools in The Bronx serve over 188,000 students. Of these, around 90 schools are charter schools.

In addition, more than 30,000 students attend one of the 85+ private schools in The Bronx. Most are religiously affiliated, and options are available for all grade levels.
